Microsoft game consoles may be connected to the Georgia Tech network via wired or wireless internet connection by following the appropriate instructions below. Click on the title of each section to expand the instructions.
Xbox One: Wired (No Router)
-
Connect an ethernet cable (CAT5e or CAT6) from the Xbox One’s ethernet jack to the ethernet jack on the wall in your room. Make sure you connect to the data jack (labeled “DATA”, yellow in color, and/or the bottom jack)
-
Power on the Xbox. Press the Menu button on your controller. Navigate to Settings, then Network. Select Test Network Connection. The connection test will say that the console is connected, but that is incorrect. This is an issue with the Xbox's software.
-
Navigate to Advanced Settings from the Network settings page. Either write down the Wired MAC (series of letters and numbers separated with dashes or colons) or leave this screen up.
- On a computer connected to the internet, navigate to https://start.gatech.edu and sign in with your GT account credentials.
- Select Register a Different Device
- Enter the MAC address you looked up in step 3.
- Select Residence Hall or Greek House as appropriate.
- Enter a description for the device, such as "George's PS3". This is for your reference only.
- Select Enabled for ISS firewall.
- Click I Accept Responsibility for this Device - Continue Registration
- Unplug your Xbox from the network for two minutes.
- Upon reconnecting your Xbox after two minutes have passed, perform another connection test. The test should succeed and you should be able to access the internet on your Xbox.
We have seen issues where users are unable to retrieve the MAC address or access Internet Explorer on the Xbox One when it is first set up from the box. As such, the device can not be registered. If you encounter this issue, please submit a help request and we can provide a workaround to register the device.
Additional instructions may be found on Microsoft's website here.

- Ensure that you have registered your router on START before proceeding. If you have not registered it yet, please follow the instructions found here.
- Connect a network cable from one of the LAN ports on your router to the network port on the back of the Xbox.
-
Power on the Xbox. Press the Menu button on your controller. Navigate to Settings, then Network. Select Test Network Connection. The connection test should succeed.
